Development boom driving strong demand for Property Managers

The property development boom has generated a surge in demand for property managers, and job openings and salaries for the role are on the rise.

"Our biggest demand (recruiting staff) is for anything that spans off the back of property development because of the strong levels of development over the last five to eight years," Sharon Bennie of Specialist Property Recruitment told SCHWARTZWILLIAMS.

Bennie singled out property managers and strata managers as the industry's most highly sought-after staff.

Bennie said it is "tremendously challenging" to fill positions, because there aren't people coming up through "grass root" roles, or through training organisations. Bennie also said there hasn't been an industry-wide push to promote real estate careers.

Bennie's comments are backed up by job listing data on specialist real estate recruitment website, RECON Jobs.

RECON Jobs' largest job category in terms of number of listings is property manager, followed by real estate agent, and then sales assistant, commercial sales agent, and real estate administration.

"The challenge of filling those roles has increased salaries," said Bennie.

Property manager jobs have experienced above CPI wages growth, according to Bennie, defying the weak trend in wages growth more broadly in Australia.
